Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out how the group expressive arts psychotherapy program affects depression and ego-integrity of the elderly with mild dementia. The subjects of this study was 12 people aged 65 or older who were diagnosed with a score of 15 to 23 mild dementia in the Korea-Mini-Mental State Examination (K-MMSE) and agreed to participate in the study. Among them 6 people were selected as an experimental group for whom a total of 12 sessions were conducted twice a week. Research tools used in this study are Revised Korean Version of the Geriatric Depression Scale (K-GDS) and Ego-integrity scale of Korea's elderly. Research data processing was analyzed using the SPSS 23.0 statistics program, and data collected through the research process were tested by nonparametric Mann-Whitney U test to verify the homogeneity of depression and ego-integrity between the two groups, and to verify the effectiveness by comparing them with Wilcoxon signed-rank test. We looked at the changes in participants based on observations, recorded content, and works of each session. The results show that group expressive arts psychotherapy program has had a positive effect on reducing depression among the elderly with mild dementia, and enhancing ego-integrity. Therefore, It is meaningful to maximize the advantages of single arts therapy and to inform the elderly with mild dementia that a group expressive arts psychotherapy program that integrates two or more types of treatment is effective in complexing various symptoms such as body, cognition, emotion, and relationship.
